More about the project

What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?
Social cohesion and the celebration of people and place counteracting the breakdown of neighbourhoods and local identity.
Can you give us some statistics on this problem?
Some participant comments from last year’s event included: “For me and the SuperDads who were involved, it was a demonstration of community and a connection to a true spirit of Christmas time, and a relief to not have to fork out more money at this expensive time of year.” Workshop participant “Amazing and beautiful, fun and vibrant and really important at this time of year!” Anna Tuggey, participant
What is your solution?
A large scale annual celebration that is funded by the people themselves through donations, sponsorship from local businesses who then join the event and our local university. An event owned by the people.
How will you deliver this?
People make lanterns and invest their hopes and wishes for the new year. They work with artists, in families or in groups to create magical lit images to bring through the City of Brighton and to pass into the fire \s an offering for the new years. With no religious background this can fit everyone inclinations making it a personal process that we can do together but with our own individual flavour.
